That's right, I am calling all of you out except for the 28 riders that came across the water to race our race on Saturday. To you 28 who know who you are: you rock. The rest of you: LAME & WEAK!
28 riders total, not in one race, but total showed up for the race at the Fairgrounds on Saturday. Now I realize that it was a first year event, but it is not as if we at Ridge Racing are new to putting on races. The Blackberry and Silverdale Crits are quality events with good courses, good prize money and are well run. So you should have done the IF-THEN Statement which was IF Ridge Racing is putting on this race THEN we should do it because we know it will be a good one.
Other possible excuses uttered by the no-shows:
- "Too far to go." - Yeah, that 1 hour relaxing ferry ride is rough. It will be interesting to see how many of you show up to Mason Lake next year which is farther to get to and pays out less money. Survey says, "Lame".
- "Saving it for the Seattle Cross Series Race on Sunday". - How many are planning on doing both USGP races this weekend? Might want to think about doing a double weekend of racing the weekend before to tune the body up for it. Soft in the head equals soft in the body. Besides that, and this is said with all due respect to the series, we offered up a good prize list with money to most of the categories. So maybe you should rethink that next time if you are too soft to race 2 races in a weekend. Survey says, "Weak".
- "It poured down rain all day on Friday, looked like rain on Saturday". - The sun was out all day and the rain the day before made conditions perfect. How was the mud and rain in Evergreen? Survey says "Weak".
- "I am getting burnt out, it has been a long season" - Maybe you ought to fire your coach, or go out and get one. Besides, I thought racing cross was all about having fun in the mud, how can having fun burn you out? - Survey says, "Lame".
- "I am lame and weak." - No argument from me there. Everyone that did show up all had the same thing to say, that it was a really fun course and they had a great time. In fact, this morning we received these emails from a couple of the racers: "Thanks for the fun race. I loved the course. Maybe it can be part of the cross series next year. " - Kate
"I wanted to say thanks for putting on a great race on Saturday. I thought the course was awesome and the event was run really smooth. Hopefully you can do it again next year and more people will show" - ChrisThanks Kate and Chris. So, in addition to the rest of you being lame and weak, you also missed out on a great event. Too bad for you.

HOLY CRAP, only 28! Some of East-siders (east side of the state that is) were bitching when very few "West-siders" showed up for the STATE Championship in Spokane last weekend, otherwise we may have headed over.

I saw the flyer for your race and the course layout and it looked really cool...too bad we had our last races of the Inland NW series this weekend.
That last comment should have read:

I did not mean to say we did not head over due to the lack of particpation of the West-siders at States.
Cross racers are strange
ha. my race (aka the hell of the south) gets more than you do!
Not that I race cross, but having missed a ferry, which caused me to miss a race at Sequim...I no longer bother to go to races that involve ferry lines.
Sounds like a time management issue on your end, get there earlier or drive around...like we do all of the time.
30 min drive to ferry
20 min wait in line
60 min ferry ride
20 min drive to race
60 min race "prep"
45 min race
20 min drive from race
40 min wait in line
60 min ferry ride
30 min drive home
6+ hours out of the day. Time management involves placing a value on your time and making decisions accordingly.
Like I said, we do it all the time.

Guess you are destined to miss some great races in the future ...anonymous. That's cool though, you'll always have Seward Park.
Oh yeah, and Jerry Baker said he drove around from U Village in 1hr 18min. Now this is pure speculation since I have never ridden in a car with Jerry, but something tells me he is not Speed Racer behind the wheel. I could be wrong...but I seldom am.
28 racers is bs. How can Portland get 700+ racers and we can't muster even 50?

time management? I gotta call BS on that. I know a lot of riders, like Schmeernov and DeLux have kids and can only do 1 race. So they choose the series. Going to Steillacoom requires more time than Bremerton for the average Seattle rider.
My theory? Washington cycling in general has become increasing local. While a larger pool of riders at the top is trying to go pro and race in the big leagues, the "middle class" of riders has shrunk. Now, most of the riders, even those with the talent to do well at bigger races, stay in the small pond and focus on series points.
There's nothing wrong with that on an case by case basis. Maybe anon really just doesn't have the time. But in the aggregate it is a problem when 95% of the racing community goes local. It's not healthy and eventually marginilized NW racing as the 5% that are fast needs to go farther to do faster races and thhe 95% becomes increasingly insular.
I have no solution for growing the middle class without abolishing series racing, which is equally unfair to the local-only guys.

I'm going to go with excuse numbers "2" and "5". In addition to "saving it for the SCC" and "being lame and weak", I will also claim the two days of course building and tear-down, as well as the "I had to work at the shop all day during the race" position.
Notice that I specified course "building", and not course "setup." Setup occurs when a location has a pre-existing course. This one did not. Therefore I BUILT a course, then set it up. I was cold and tired, but mostly just excuse #5.
in the list of excuses you forgot, "Holy shit I have a huge test Monday morning and I've hardly looked at the material!" or better yet, maybe it's better to say "My dog ate it."

and then we can accuse the 28 of only caring about money for doing Holmes' big purse races....
