Grand Prix I am adding a new movie to my list of favorites: Grand Prix from 1966. I am sheepishly admitting to the fact that I had never even heard of this movie until I stumbled across it on Speedvision a few weeks ago (actually, my lady stumbled across it and told me I should watch it because she knew I would like it, that's 1 of the many reasons why my lady rules). I have watched it multiple times since then, all 3 hours plus commercials. If you have never seen this go watch it, do it now. The basic story follows 4 drivers through an entire Grand Prix season. The racing cinematography, filmed over 40 years ago is still great to watch. So look for it on Speedvision or put it on your Netflix list. Do it, you won't regret it.

How about Death Race 2000 from 1976?
A good flick for various cult reasons and to know how many points you get for running over various types of pedestrians but nowhere near the level of Grand Prix (which won 3 Oscars). Although, Stallone's scenes brought acting to an entirely new level (or sunk it to a whole new level....)
Garner could actually drive real fast- and it's been quoted from Graham Hill (1968 world champion, father of Darren Hill- 1996 world champion )), who was a consultant on the film as well as in the movie (the swank driver with the porn mustache) that James Garner could have raced in Formula One if he'd chosen to.
Just this last weekend one of the cable stations showed the movie along with comments from Garner and the crew. It was poretty cool to see how they filmed different sections and races.
Just think... James Garner racing all euro and then a few years later he's a P.I. driving a Firebird. He must have really pissed off Enzo!
And never forget... real race cars DON'T have fenders!
Werd, fenders suck. Wait- is my bike still a race bike if I have a rear fender on it?
Umm....
